Upcoming Public Meeting of Nueces River Watershed Partnership on November 9

CORPUS CHRISTI - Area landowners and citizens interested in the implementation of the Lower Nueces River Watershed Protection Plan are invited to attend a public meeting on Wednesday, November 9, 2016. The meeting, hosted by the Nueces River Authority, will be held at the Hilltop Community Center (TM Room) located at 11425 Leopard Street in Corpus Christi from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The meeting will focus on implementation activities and upcoming events in the watershed.

"The Lower Nueces River Watershed Protection Plan is a result of collaborative efforts of many local, state, and federal stakeholders and partners. The Watershed Protection Plan was developed proactively to address potential threats and ensure the long-term protection of the water supply in the Coastal Bend region. This is a very positive path for the Lower Nueces River Watershed to be on," said Rosario Martinez, Project Manager, Coastal Bend Bays and Estuaries Program.

This 39-mile stretch of the Nueces River, between Lake Corpus Christi and the saltwater barrier dam at Labonte Park, is the primary source of drinking water for the area. The watershed is approximately 116,862 acres within parts of Jim Wells, San Patricio, and Nueces counties. This waterbody was listed as impaired in 2012 in the Texas Integrated Report of Surface Water Quality for elevated levels of total dissolved solids.

Funding for the administration of the Lower Nueces River Watershed Protection Plan is through a Clean Water Act §319(h) nonpoint source grant provided by the Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
