Texas Climate-Smart Initiative

The Texas Climate-Smart Initiative (TCSI) is part of the Partnerships for Climate-Smart Commodities, a $3.1 billion investment across the US administered by USDA to support the production and marketing of climate-smart commodities. TSSWCB has partnered with Texas A&M AgriLife to work directly with producers to implement new climate-smart practices. TSSWCB will provide producers with planning and implementation support for climate-smart practices along with financial incentives for successfully executing the practices on their land. A cross-functional team of researchers at Texas A&M, Prairie View A&M, Tarleton State University, and University of Texas Rio Grande Valley will be working with a select group of producers to do extensive research on soil health, carbon sequestration, and new market opportunities for climate-smart products. Over a 5-year period, TCSI will put $38.8 million in the pockets of producers while helping them improve the long-term sustainability, productivity, and profitability of their operations.
