Leadership Re-Elected on Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board

TEMPLE - The Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board (TSSWCB) held a board meeting on Thursday, May 19, 2016. The meeting was held at the Hilton Garden Inn in Temple. During the meeting action was taken to elect a chairman and vice chairman for the board.

Scott Buckles of Stratford was re-elected as chairman of the TSSWCB board. Buckles is native to Sherman County, he has farmed and ranched there for over 20 years.

"I am honored to continue serving Texas landowners and to keep conservation a priority to protect our natural resources in this leadership role," said Buckles.

José Dodier, Jr., of Zapata will remain vice chairman of the board, serving his second term. Dodier is a partner in Don José Land and Cattle Company in Zapata County, which is a conservation-driven, cow-calf operation that produces commercial Charbray cattle.

Joining Buckles and Dodier on the board of directors are Marty H. Graham of Rocksprings, Jerry D. Nichols of Nacogdoches, Barry Mahler of Iowa Park, Larry D. Jacobs of Montgomery, and Joe L. Ward of Telephone. The board of directors acts for the agency on matters relating to the State Legislature and the landowners of Texas.

The TSSWCB board of directors consists of five elected members and two Governor appointed members who must be actively engaged in farming or ranching. The five TSSWCB members are chosen in a convention type election by soil and water conservation district Directors in the State District in which the TSSWCB member resides.
